I am getting on a bit age wise now, but I don't think that mules is a term that young people here in Australia would use for shoes. For example, at one point the main character talks about her 'mules'. So far it's been an interesting read, although there have been a couple of times when I have been pulled out of the story a little bit by either one of the things that happens or the terminology used. There was the thing with the bucket bong my almost failing mid-terms, my schizo MO - hugging Dad one day, railing at him the next - but the tipping point was when a group of us broke into the local pool for a spot of night-swimming.
